Review and Photos of Golden Phoenix, Reno
Notice: The Golden Phoenix is now closed. |
The Golden Phoenix, which opened in Fall 2002, was formerly the Flamingo Reno.
It is located downtown on Sierra Street next to the railroad tracks (the train station is two blocks away).
There is a convenient enclosed pedestrian walkway, which connects the property to Virginia
Street and the casino district one block to the east.
The hotel is owned by the Vista
Hospitality Company which also owns hotels in Canada, New York State, and Florida.
Golden Phoneix Casino and Hotel
Golden Phoenix Hotel -
The hotel has 604 guest rooms and suites, as well as an excercise room and business center.
Rooms are suitable, but are light on
amenities and they could benefit from a little refurbishment. In our room for example, the
carpet, furniture, and fixtures were well worn, and there was no hairdryer, iron, or even a
clock. Nevertheless, it was a clean place to sleep, at a very good price.
One thing for light sleepers
to keep in mind though, is that the trains can be very loud, particularly for rooms on the
north end of the tower, which overlook the tracks.
For parking, Golden Phoenix has both valet and free self-parking. The small, dark self-park
lot is about a block away (down the street or an alley) from the casino and check-in, so valet is
recommended. There is also a complimentary airport shuttle.
