Over 500,000 people are expected to attend the 2012 Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off. The event is held at Victorian Square in Sparks, Nevada August 29th through September 3rd (Labor Day weekend), and features rib cooking and eating competitions, six stages of music, fun for the kids, and more.

As you can imagine, hotel rooms book well in advance. But we've found lodging available close to the action at the following hotels and motels:

Hot August Nights is Reno's biggest annual event, with over 800,000 people attending the classic car shows, free rock concerts, parades, drag races and other attractions. This year's festivities run from August 7th to the 12th Click here to see the official event schedule.

In case you missed it, Fitzgeralds Reno closed on November 30th, 2008. The owners plan on redeveloping it as a non gaming property with a boutique hotel, shopping, and dining.

Silver Club, in Sparks, will close January 10th, 2009. The closure is the result of a potential buyer's failure to secure financing.
